Teaser

A one to two page anonymous summary of a business for sale. It tells a buyer what the company is without revealing who it is.

In more detail

The teaser, sometimes called the executive summary, is the first thing a prospective buyer sees. It carries the industry, location at a deliberately general level, size, and what makes the business attractive, with the name, customers and anything else identifying removed. A buyer who is interested signs a confidentiality agreement, and only then sees the full story.

For example

A teaser might read "Refrigerated food carrier, upper Midwest, $6.2M revenue, long-tenured customer base, real estate available." It would not name the company, its customers, or its town.

If you are selling

It lets your business be marketed widely without your employees, customers or competitors learning you are selling.

If you are buying

It is enough to decide whether to spend time and sign an NDA, and deliberately not enough to identify the company.
